National Service Scheme - NSS
The NSS unit of Elphinstone College undertakes different projects such as blood collection campaigns, awareness camps, etc. Currently, an enquiry counter has been set up to assist students for F.Y.J.C. Admissions.
Students who join the National Services Scheme (NSS) or N.C.C. will get the benefit of 10 additional marks. In case such students fall in a subject, they will be given not more than five marks to enable them to pass in the subject, or for the award of a class or distinction. Under no circumstances will they be entitled to more than ten additional marks. These marks will be given provided the student completes 120 hours in NSS or has satisfactorily completed his NCC training.
Some of the activities carried out by the NSS unit are:
December 2, 2005: To create more awareness amongst the people a rally with Slogans and posters was arranged. Further, puppet shows at Colaba Market, Sandhurst Road and Mohammad Ali Road with a theme - "Bye Bye 2005: Bye Bye AIDS", were performed. In addition, inside the college a one day exhibition was held on 1st December 2005 in Co-ordination with French Association of the college.
Blood Donation and Thalessamia Awareness Camp:
On 2nd September, 2005, NSS inaugurated its first in-house activity by arranging Blood Donation Drive. The whole campaign was successfully organized by the NSS volunteers in association with the Red Cross Society. This regular programme of NSS with proper propaganda and awareness managed to collect 117 units of Blood.
